WHAT CORTINEF IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
Cortinef belongs to a drug group called steroids (full name: mineralocorticosteroids)
They are hormones produced in the body by the cortex of the adrenal glands. They strongly influence the metabolism of salt and minerals in the body. Distribute water (fluids) in the body.

Cortinef contains a synthetic (man-made) hormone produced by the adrenal glands.

The medicinal product is used for:
Primary adrenal insufficiency (Addison's disease);
Secondary adrenal insufficiency;
Adrenogenital syndrome with salt wasting.
2. BEFORE YOU TAKE CORTINEF
Do not apply in case of:
Allergy (hypersensitivity) to active substances or any of the other components of the product (see point 6: Additional information);
Current infection of multiple tissues and/or organs for which no treatment has been administered
Take special care when applying Cortinef

Taking Kortinef can cause the following reactions:
atrophy of the adrenal glands, which may persist for years after discontinuation of treatment;
increased blood pressure, increased body weight, sweating caused by retention of sodium and fluids in the body;
strengthening of the symptoms of some diseases such as: pneumonia, hepatitis and disseminated intravasal coagulation;
more acute course of some infectious diseases such as: chicken pox, measles and herpes zoster;
in case of infection, it is necessary for the attending physician to prescribe adequate treatment;
patients who have not experienced any of the mentioned diseases should avoid exposure to the risk of infections;
reduces resistance to infections. The medicinal product may mask the symptoms of infection;
irregular menstruation.
Before taking Kortinef, the patient should inform the doctor if he suffers from:
Peptic ulcer of the duodenum or duodenum;
intestinal diseases (eg, recent intestinal anastomosis, intestinal diverticulosis);
thrombophlebitis;
diseases in which one of the symptoms is a rash (red, itchy pimples or spots on the skin);
chronic kidney inflammation or kidney failure;
osteoporosis (especially in postmenopausal women);
muscle weakness and easy fatigue (Myasthenia);
fungal or viral infections;
glaucoma (or if a family member suffers from glaucoma);
increased cholesterol and triglyceride concentration;
reduced concentration of proteins in the blood;
increased blood pressure;
congestive heart failure;
epilepsy;
impaired kidney functions, cirrhosis;
acute mental and physical disorders.
The medicinal product may intensify the symptoms of the diseases

tuberculosis;
hypothyroidism;
diabetes;
low levels of clotting factor - prothrombin and in case the medicinal product is taken simultaneously with aspirin.
During the reception of Kortinef, it is necessary for the attending physician to recommend a blood test (control of salt intake and the concentration of electrolytes in the serum).

Please tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

Some medicines may increase the effect of Cortinef and your doctor may want to monitor you closely if you are taking such medicines (including some HIV medicines: ritonavir, cobicistat).

Contact your doctor if you have blurred vision or other visual disturbances.

While taking the medicinal product, it is necessary to strictly follow the doctor's prescriptions.

In children:
It is necessary to carry out periodic examinations. Cortinef can cause disorders in the development and growth of newborns and children (especially if the medicinal product is taken for a long time).

Application with other medicinal products
Please tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

It is necessary for the patient to inform his doctor in case he takes any of the mentioned medicinal products:
barbiturates (medicinal product against insomnia and epilepsy);
phenytoin, carbamazepine primidone (medicine for epilepsy);
rifampicin, rifabutin (medicine to treat tuberculosis;)
aminoglutethimide (a drug used to treat breast cancer);
insulin and medicinal products for oral use for the treatment of diabetes;
diuretics;
coumarin derivatives, indanedione, heparin (medicine against blood clotting)
streptokinase, urokinase (clot-dissolving drug);
pain relievers called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, eg ibuprofen;
aspirin, polopirin (acetylsalicylic acid)
anti-inflammatory and analgesic medicinal products;
antihistamines (medicinal products for the treatment of allergies, migraines, vomiting);
anabolic steroids, androgens (medicinal products for the treatment of hormonal disorders);
contraceptive medicinal products containing estrogens;
vaccines containing live viruses (Cortinef reduces their effect);
other glucocorticosteroids.
Administration of Kortinef with food, drink and alcohol
Kortinef is taken between meals.
The medicinal product increases the accumulation of sodium in the body, which can cause sweating and increased blood pressure. Limit salt consumption.

Pregnancy, lactation and fertility
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine!

The doctor should be informed if the patient is pregnant, if there are suspicions that she is pregnant or plans to become pregnant, since Kortinef can harm the fetus.

Cortinef should not be taken by pregnant or breastfeeding women. Small amounts of the medicinal product enter breast milk.

Driving and using machines
It usually does not affect psychomotor activity.

Important information about some of the ingredients of Kortinef
Cortinef contains lactose (a type of sugar). If you have been informed by a doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, consult your doctor before use.

3. HOW TO GIVE CORTINEF
Always use Cortinef exactly as prescribed by your doctor! Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure about the method of administration! Doses and duration of treatment are prescribed by the attending physician

Usual doses are:
1 to 3 tablets (from 100 micrograms to 300 micrograms) per day

2 to 3 tablets (from 200 micrograms to 300 micrograms) every second or third day. The tablets do not split.
The medicinal product is intended for oral use.

In case you have taken more Cortinef than prescribed

In case of taking a larger dose than prescribed, it is necessary to stop taking the medicinal product and immediately consult a doctor.

In case you forget to take Kortinef
In case of a missed dose, it is necessary to take the product as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, do not take the missed dose. Take a double dose to make up for the forgotten dose!

In case you stop using Cortinef
Do not stop taking Kortinef unless your doctor tells you to. Stopping treatment after long-term use of the medicinal product can cause acute adrenal insufficiency, hypotension and death.
The following symptoms of glucocorticosteroid withdrawal syndrome may occur: fever, muscle and joint pain, malaise, rhinitis, conjunctivitis, skin lumps and weight loss.

If you have any further questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

4. POSSIBLE ADVERSE REACTIONS
Like all drugs. Cortinef can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
If any of the following side effects occur, contact a doctor immediately!

allergic reaction (rash, facial sweating, difficulty breathing), especially in patients who have established allergic reactions to other medicinal products;
vomiting with traces of blood, black feces or feces with traces of fresh blood;
high fever, weakness, malaise (symptoms of infection);
mental disorders (euphoria, deep sadness, personality disorders, exacerbation of psychotic symptoms).
Other side effects
sweating of the lower extremities;
congestive heart failure;
increased blood pressure;

The risk of side effects listed below applies to patients taking Cortinef for a long time or simultaneously with other corticosteroids:
muscle weakness, osteoporosis, increased risk of fractures, aseptic necrosis of the femur and shoulder joints;
increased appetite, increased body weight, nausea, stomach pain, flatulence, heartburn;
stomach ulcer, bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract, pancreatitis, oral mucosa (white skin on the membrane of the mucous membrane of the oral cavity);
difficult wound healing, increased risk of bleeding and bruising, increased hair growth, acne, wide skin stretch marks, thinning of the skin;
sweating, redness of the skin of the legs, as the pain increases when walking, increased body temperature (thrombophlebitis);
insomnia, dizziness and headache, convulsions;
hypersensitivity (stinging, sharp pain, burning sensation);
irregular or absent menstruation;
Cushing's syndrome - characteristic signs: rounding of the face, obesity in the chest and abdomen, thinning of the limbs;
stunting in children;
increase the concentration of sugar in the blood (diabetes); -presence of symptoms of ophthalmological diseases; - increased risk of blood clots;
Rare:

Blurred vision.
5. HOW TO STORE CORTINEF
Keep out of the reach of children! Store at a temperature below 25°C!
Store in the original package to protect from light and moisture. Do not use Cortinef after the expiration date stated on the package! The expiration date refers to the last day of the month.
Medicinal products should not be disposed of down the drain or with household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines you no longer need! Such measures help protect the environment.

The active substance is: fludrocortisone acetate
One tablet contains 100 micrograms of fludrocortisone acetate
